Dan Lloyd

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into a series of points situated beneath the skin along lines called meridians.

The Chinese believe that acupuncture stimulates the flow of "Qi" (Chi) down the meridians. Qi is an energy force that

surrounds and penetrates us. Enhancing the flow of Qi assists our bodies own self-healing mechanism.

The beauty of this system of medicine is that the person is the centre of the diagnostic process (not the complaint), so it is the whole self that is diagnosed and treated. In doing so acupuncture is seen as a holistic and preventative medicine.

Traditionally the Chinese physician was paid to keep the family well, if anyone fell ill then the family did not pay extra.

What should I expect?

Acupuncture diagnosis involves taking the pulse on both wrists, looking at the tongue, and observing other features such as the face, hands or nails. During the first consultation I will ask many questions about life style, medical history, working environment, diet, sleeping patterns, digestive system, and emotional states, this information is all very revealing as to what is going on in the body.

What does it feel like?

During atreatment you are likely to feel a sense of well-being or relaxation. Insertion of the needles (which are more like hairs) is done with a guide tube, which firstly ensures the needle is sterile and also helps with painless needling.

How long is the appointment?

All appointments last 1 hour which includes an in depth health consultation during the first treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Everybody is an individual and I treat all my patients uniquely. Reaction times vary from patient to patient and it is my aim to improve your health as quickly and smoothly as possible.
